Tommy Burns

Tommy is a native of Shelby, NC and grandson of one of the inaugural inductees into the Cleveland County Music Hall of Fame, legendary disc jockey, Hugh Dover.

Tommy graduated from Crest High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Campbell University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Trust and Investment Management from the Campbell University School of Business and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He has been a City or County Manager for over 20 years in North Carolina and currently serves as the County Manager in Carteret County.

He is the author of the book, “Wholly Obedient Humble Servant: The Life Story of Hugh Dover”, that will be out in mid-2023. Tommy worked for several years in the 1990’s at WKMT alongside his grandfather and later at WOHS, where Mr. Dover worked the majority of his 52-year career in radio.

While in college Tommy served several years as the radio voice for the Campbell University Radio Network, covering Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s Baseball, Women’s Softball and local High School football games.
